Before we talk about CPXP certification and its requirements we need to understand who is the certified experience professional.
The Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP) is a leader in healthcare who enhances patient experiences through process improvement and behavior influence across care settings. This certification is ideal for those with at least three years of experience in patient-centered care, such as healthcare providers, consultants, or family advocates. Earning CPXP certification demonstrates expertise and commitment to patient experience standards, with certification obtained by passing an online exam through the Patient Experience Institute.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the CPXP exam, applicants must meet a prescribed set of qualifying criteria, including:
- It requires at least 3 years of experience in a patient-facing job, engaging in patient experience efforts from diverse viewpoints, whether they are healthcare professionals, consultants, patients, or family members, Who are all dedicated to offering a great experience.
- With fewer than 3 years of professional experience: Completion of 30 Patient Experience Continuing Education Credits (PXEs) before filing an application for certification, which could comprise up to 10 hours of applicable CEs, such as related CNE or CME-certified courses.
After the application examination, candidates will be told directly by PXI whether it was accepted.
Alternatively, it may not have met the requirements, this contact will occur before scheduling the CPXP exam.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The first step to obtain CPXP certification is to take the CPXP exam, applicants must complete a thorough application process.
Applications are examined to determine eligibility for the exam.
The application evaluation procedure takes about 30 days before formal notice.
Completing the application does not guarantee approval for the CPXP exam. Sitting for the CPXP exam does not ensure certification.

CPXP Examination Preparation
Following certification exam credentialing guidelines, the Patient Experience Institute cannot and does not publish prepared materials. We may provide the following CPXP Exam preparation tips as one prepares to take the exam:
- Ensure a thorough understanding and awareness of the entire CPXP classification system, as explained above and detailed in the CPXP Handbook.
- Examine a selection of CPXP-recommended references. The reference list includes the most commonly mentioned references throughout the production of the initial CPXP test. It should be noted that it does not provide an exhaustive list of all sources utilized to create the exam, but the information presented does capture the core of the exam content. As with all preparation materials, Knowledge of any suggested study materials does not ensure passing the exam; rather, it serves as a guide for preparation before test completion.
- Participate in the CPXP Preparation Work Group.
During each exam preparation session, PXI provides a work group for all CPXP candidates, allowing them to network, share knowledge, and organize study groups. This is included in your application cost, and you will have access to this resource after your application is approved.
CPXP Examination Structure
The CPXP Exam is a 150-question exam conducted online at a testing facility or through live online proctoring. Examinees have three hours to complete the process. The exam is based on the CPXP classification system, as described in the CPXP Handbook. Currently, the classification system consists of four key domains, including:
- Partnership and Advocacy.
- Measurement and Analysis.
- Design & Innovation.
- Organizational Culture and Leadership.
CPXP Exam Practice
Through testing partner Meazure Learning, PXI offers a $50 online CPXP practice test that is not covered by the exam fee. All prospective CPXP exam candidates can access the practice test, which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions spanning the four exam domains.
Since the CPXP practice test's questions are retired and no longer appear on the actual exam, it is not meant to be used as a study aid.
Its purpose is to provide applicants with an idea of the kind of questions that will be asked on the CPXP exam as well as the online testing environment.
